  • Northern Yorke Peninsula Quilters at The Ascot Community Exhibition Art Gallery

    Northern Yorke Peninsula Quilters at The Ascot Community Exhibition Art Gallery will be open Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm and Saturday morning 10am to 12 midday from 7th May to 7th June. A long established local group since 1986, this very generous group of women share not only their skills with one another but also their time. They are well known for making display quilts for local public buildings, quilts for organisations to raffle and quilts for local charities to distribute as needed. They also make substantial donations from their exhibitions to many local and other worthy causes. The Ascot Community Exhibition Art Gallery has a different exhibition each month. The Kernewek Lowender Art Prize Collection is also on permanent display (except for May in odd numbered years when the Cornish Festival is being held). More details…

    Come and see the Country Arts SA - Craft Anonymous exhibition at the Ascot Community Exhibition Gallery. It will be open Monday to Friday 10 am to 4 pm and Saturday morning 10 am to 12 midday from 14th June to 24th July. Craft Anonymous brought together regional and metropolitan textile, glass, metal and ceramic artists to exhibit in the iconic Adelaide Town Hall in 2015. In 2017 this exhibition continues it's tour of regional South Australia. Traditional handicraft techniques such as weaving, embroidery, knitting, felting, enameling and hand-dying are showcased within a contemporary art context where old meets new.   • Victoria Park Moonta monthly walks

    The Friends of Victoria Park in Moonta have monthly walks on the third Sunday of the month commencing at 10am that all are invited to attend. The walk commences from the Henry Street entrance on Milne Terrace. Victoria Park is being preserved as a bush park after being initially established in the 1830's with community effort as a landcare plantation to protect the town from sand drift and to commemorate the reign of Queen Victoria.     Islands are by nature hermetic and that seclusion, coupled with majestic natural surroundings can be a powerful muse to the creative soul. Thus the symmetry of Kangaroo Island: 4500 square kilometres, half of it natural ecosystems and, 4500 residents, half seemingly artists in some form. Ten of the island’s visual artists are bringing ‘mainlanders’ a glimpse of the isolation and inspiration of island life in Island to Inland: contemporary art from Kangaroo Island, which will open at Flinders University City Gallery during SALA Festival 2017 and then be toured by Country Arts SA. The artists are creating new works on the theme of ‘isolation and inspiration’ for the exhibition, curated by Eleanor Scicchitano, Visual Arts Coordinator, Country Arts South Australia and Celia Dottore, Exhibitions Manager, Flinders University Art Museum and City Gallery University.   • Kernewek Lowender Copper Coast Cornish Festival

    The next Kernewek Lowender will be held May 13th -19th 2019. (This event is held in May every second year) This unique major cultural festival for South Australia has been held biennially in the three Copper Coast towns of Moonta, Wallaroo and Kadina since 1973, routinely attracting more than 40,000 people who gather to celebrate the region’s significant Cornish heritage. With a new focus and drive to reignite the flame for the festival the committee is re planning and refreshing the festival. The unique authentic program of fun and feasting includes hundreds dressing as Cornish Jacks and Jennies, thousands of Cornish pasties and crowds filling the town squares for the spectacle that is the maypole and furry dancing. Necks crane to view the Procession and Cavalcade of Cars & Motorcycles, and people travel thousands of miles to experience the Gathering of the Bards and the Dressing of the Graves. More details…
